According to a 2020/2021 Council for Medical Schemes Annual report hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes mellitus type 2 are the most prevalent chronic conditions among members of medical aid schemes and are also ranked highest in beneficiaries that are 60 years and older.
Doctors prescribe medications for the management of these chronic conditions however, no data is available about either the success of the treatment or intra day flactuations of the health data that may increase the risk of life threatening complications like stroke, heart attacks etc.
All independent older adults spend most of their life outside traditional clinical settings like a doctor's consulting room. It is during these times outside clinical settings, that their health and wellness matters most. The self measurement of their wellness coupled with remote monitoring is important in preventing chronic disease complications.
